Anti-Aircraft Missile Lands Near Chita

A rural community on the outskirts of the Siberian city of Chita was rattled by the explosion of an anti-aircraft missile that dropped from the sky, local media reported Thursday.

Local online TV news portal Zaibalkalya reported that an object identified as an S-300 anti-aircraft missile landed in a field in the village of Domna-Klyuchi, some 30 kilometers from Chita. No one was harmed and no property was damaged in the incident.

Residents of Domna-Klyuchi said the explosion was so loud it could be heard in neighboring villages, according to the local Baikal Media Consulting news agency.

While the circumstances surrounding the explosion remain unclear, local media said it could be tied to drills currently being conducted by the Russian military in the area.
