Two planes carrying 77 Russian citizens evacuated from Syria landed at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport around 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning, news reports said.
The Emergency Situations Ministry sent two planes to Lebanon's capital, Beirut, on Tuesday to bring home Russian citizens who wanted to leave the war-torn country, RIA-Novosti reported. They were transported by bus from Syria to neighboring Lebanon early Tuesday afternoon.
The Russian consulate in Damascus said people from various parts of Syria requested evacuation, mostly women married to Syrians and their children.
Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry says there may be tens of thousands of Russians still living in Syria who have not registered with the consulate, predominantly women married to Syrian men.
The Emergency Situations Ministry said those returning from Syria were offered medical and psychological aid upon their arrival at Domodedovo.
In addition, a hotline providing information about relatives returning from Syria has been set up: 8 (800) 775-17-17.
