Three people were killed Monday when a car crashed into a bus stop in northern Moscow, news reports said.
A Moscow police source told RIA-Novosti that a Honda SUV driven by a woman with a long history of traffic offenses veered into the oncoming lane before crashing into the bus stop at about midday near the Vodny Stadion metro station.
As a result of the accident, which happened at 19/38 Onezhskaya Ulitsa, three pedestrians were killed and one was injured.
The unidentified Honda driver was blocked inside her car and was later hospitalized, Interfax reported.
Initial tests showed that the driver was sober at the time of the crash, according to RIA-Novosti. Investigators have opened a criminal case on charges of killing two or more people while violating road traffic rules.
The charges carry a sentence of up to seven years in prison.
Monday's accident comes on the back of a string of lethal crashes, which have raised concerns about pedestrian safety in Moscow.
A similar accident on Minskaya Ulitsa on Sep. 22 resulted in the deaths of seven people, mostly orphaned teenagers.
