Transportation police in the east Siberian republic of Buryatia said Monday that they were planning to destroy $100,000 worth of vodka because the 20,000 half-liter bottles bore counterfeit excise stamps.
The shipment, seized last year at a train station in the republic's capital, Ulan-Ude, contained falsified labels indicating that excise tax, an inland production and sale duty, had been paid, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The bottles, which bore various brand names, had been shipped from the North Caucasus city of Vladikavkaz. An investigation is under way.
