Ferris Wheel at Moscow's VDNKh Park to Be Dismantled

The 73-meter Ferris wheel at the VDNKh park in Moscow will be dismantled on Thursday, the TASS news agency reported.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Ferris wheel ?€” constructed in 1995 to mark the 850th anniversary of Moscow ?€” has ceased operating. One of the cafes located near the Ferris wheel has been demolished, TASS reported.

In addition to the Ferris wheel, VDNKh will see other 11 amusement rides dismantled.

The demolition comes after the company that owns the Ferris wheel did not take down the wheel in time itself after a court ruling, TASS reported, citing the Moscow branch of the Federal Bailiff Service of Russia.

The ground plot should have been handed back to VDNKh authorities by Oct. 15, 2015.

Last year, the Moscow Arbitration Court ruled that VDNKh's lease agreement with the company end. The company tried to appeal the decision but failed.
