The Investigative Committee is conducting a search at the Moscow office of consumer electronics and household appliances retailer Eldorado as part of an inquiry into claims of large-scale tax evasion, Interfax reported Tuesday, citing committee spokesman Vladimir Markin.
The committee's St. Petersburg branch has accused the Telebalt company, which delivered products to Eldorado, of failing to pay more than 537 million rubles ($17.8 million) in taxes, he said.
"Investigators from the St. Petersburg branch of the Investigative Committee are conducting a search at Eldorado's Moscow office along with Interior Ministry officers to analyze financial and business relations through bogus companies," Markin said.
