Ticket prices may rise due to new levies introduced by Moscow's airports on air carriers, the Vedomosti business daily reported Monday.
Until recently, the airport charges ?€” for takeoffs and landings, security and services ?€” were regulated by the state. However, on Nov. 30, 2015, the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) canceled the state regulation of levies imposed by airports over air carriers. The FAS decision came into force on Monday, Vedomosti reported.
?€?Rising costs significantly impact the economics of airlines. We have repeatedly spoken about the negative consequences of the deregulation of tariffs and the absence of real competition between airports. As a result, ticket prices may rise,?€? a spokesperson for the S7 air carrier said, Vedomosti reported.
Takeoff and landing fees at Domodedovo Airport have increased 15 percent and the aviation security fee has increased 26 percent, the newspaper reported. At Sheremetyevo Airport, levies will be raised on April 1.
