$1.6M Needed Annually for Processing Bootleg Liquor

The government will have to process or dispose of 416.7 decaliters of confiscated alcohol annually between 2013 and 2015 at a cost of roughly $1.6 million, according to an Economic Development Ministry report.

The report focuses on regulations and activities around the "processing or destroying of illegally produced or confiscated ethyl spirits, alcohol or alcohol-containing products," Interfax reported.

The reports says that the Federal Property Management Agency — which currently oversees the processing of confiscated liquor — will eventually pass oversight for processing the alcohol to the Federal Service for Regulating the Alcohol Market, or FSRAR, starting from the moment goods are seized to disposing of them entirely.

The document also states that the FSRAR will become the official reseller of confiscated goods that are not suitable for processing or disposal.

Tens of thousands of Russians die every year from consuming illegally brewed alcohol.
