Muchnik's Picks: Music Over the Weekend

Austra, a Canadian synth-pop band, will play the newly opened Konstruktor venue at the former Badayevsky beer plant on Saturday. austramusic.tumblr.com

Last weekend's Indian summer is sadly over, and the rain and gloom outside will give you even more reason to go to some quality gigs this weekend. Here are two events that you simply can't miss.

A band with the funny French-sounding name La Vtornik will play at Powerhouse this Thursday. Its leader, Daniil Shaykhinurov, aka Daniel Shake, may be more familiar in the context of his better-known projects — Obe Dve and OQJAV, both with Katya Pavlova and Vadik Korolyov. In La Vtornik, Daniel Shake collaborates with Kirill Bitov, and the result is quite danceable. It has funky guitar riffs familiar to OQJAV fans and texts in Russian and English about life in a big city that everyone in Moscow can relate to.

Dewar's Powerhouse. 7/4 Ulitsa Goncharnaya. Metro Taganskaya, Markistskaya. Tickets 500 rubles ($7.50). At 8 p.m.

Austra, a Canadian synth-pop band, will play the newly opened Konstruktor venue at the former Badayevsky beer plant on Saturday. The band is named after frontwoman's Katie Stelmanis' middle name, which is also happens the goddess of light in Latvian mythology. Their songs are easily recognizable by Katie's vocals and LGBT themes. Stelmanis cites artists as diverse as Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and Claude Debussy as her musical inspiration.

Konstruktor. 12/1 Kutuzovsky Prospekt. Metro Kievskaya. Tickets 1,000 rubles ($15). At 10 p.m.
