Russian Helicopter Crashes in Syria, Two Pilots Dead

A Russian Mi-28 helicopter has crashed in Syria, killing two pilots on board, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Tuesday, citing the Russian Defense Ministry.

The incident happened on Monday night near the city of Homs in western Syria. The helicopter wasn't shelled, according to the ministry.

The bodies of the two pilots have been moved to the Khmeimim airbase in Latakia.

Moscow began air strikes in Syria in September. Last month, President Vladimir Putin announced the withdrawal of the majority of Russian forces from Syria, claiming that most of Russia's goals in the country have been accomplished.
