Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni will pay a short visit to Moscow on Friday and meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Thursday, citing a spokesperson for the Italian Foreign Ministry.

The ministers will discuss a wide range of issues, including Syria, Libya, and bilateral cooperation, according to the spokesperson.

Gentiloni has repeatedly spoken out in favor of continuing dialogue between Russia and the European Union.

In 2015, the Italian foreign minister made two visits to the Russian capital. He was one of a small number of Western representatives who came to Moscow in May to participate in the Victory Day celebrations, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

In June, the minister held talks in Moscow with Lavrov and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.
