Europe must set aside “geopolitical games” in the face of terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, the state-run TASS news agency reported Wednesday.
“I hope that all Europeans in the wake of this terrible threat of terrorism in light of the terrorist attacks in Brussels can put aside geopolitical games and come together, to prevent terrorists from controlling affairs on the continent,” Lavrov said, TASS reported.
Lavrov was speaking at the opening of talks with the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Discussions were expected to focus on events in Syria and Ukraine, but focus shifted following the deadly explosions in the Belgian capital on Tuesday.
Steinmeier said the terrorist attack in Brussels is yet another “bloody example” of the threat posed to the whole world, TASS reported.
“Because of this, I believe that it is in both our interests, to send a message against this threat. A dual action against terrorism should be in our day’s agenda,” Steinmeier announced, TASS reported.
