DUSHANBE, Tajikistan — Police in Tajikistan say two people suspected in the murder of a security services general that led to clashes between government troops and armed opposition fighters have handed themselves in to the authorities.
The Interior Ministry said Saturday that prosecutors have filed criminal charges against the suspects, who have not been named.
Another two people are also wanted for last month's killing of Abdullo Nazarov. All have been identified as influential local leaders that authorities say are involved in drug smuggling.
Recent fighting in the mountain town of Khorog, on the border with Afghanistan, was some of the worst in the nation since a five-year civil war in the 1990s.
Armed groups in the Gorno-Badakhshan province have handed in hundreds of weapons in exchange for a government amnesty.
