St. Petersburg police are searching for a man who reportedly beat up and tried to bury two women at a local graveyard, a news report said.
Police learned about the incident Monday after a local called in to say he'd seen two injured women in the Victims of Jan. 9 memorial cemetery, one badly bruised, the other half-buried, Fontanka.ru reported a day later.
But officers were left scratching their heads after a police patrol unit found only one woman in the cemetery, with her arms bound and body covered in soil.
Doctors treated the 24-year-old for numerous bruises, scratches and a head injury. The woman said that an unknown man had attacked her, beaten her up and then attempted to bury her.
A team of almost 150 officers with specially trained police dogs couldn't find the alleged assailant, according to the report, and police lost contact with the injured victim after she switched her phone off.
