Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Monday that ?€?Russian aggression?€? killed more than 10,000 Ukrainians and injured more than 20,000 during the war in eastern Ukraine, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reported.
?€?For more than two years my country has been a target of Russian aggression,?€? Poroshenko said during the United Nations World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul.
The Ukrainian president asked UN members for assistance in reviving his country, claiming that Ukraine, in turn, will provide rapid humanitarian assistance to those who need it in the future.
Poroshenko will participate in the upcoming ?€?Normandy format?€? international phone talks once he is back from Istanbul, a statement on the president?€™s official website reads.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will also take part in the talks with the leaders of Germany, France and Ukraine, according to Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Monday.
