Police have raided the St. Petersburg offices of the Novaya Gazeta newspaper, the Interfax news service reported Wednesday, citing an unnamed law enforcement source.

Officers also searched the offices of the Leningrad Region Television Company. Both raids are believed to be in connection with a major fraud case, Interfax reported.

The case was launched following an appeal from the Leningrad regional authorities, a government spokesperson told Interfax.
