A man and a woman are presumed dead after their single-engine trainer aircraft crashed during an attempted landing at a flight club in Siberia, a news report said.
The Yakovlev 52 plane, believed to have been carrying a male flight instructor and a female student, crashed early Thursday when trying to land at the club's airfield near the town of Berdsky in the Novosibirsk region, a spokesperson for the local Interior Ministry branch said, Interfax reported.
The aircraft caught fire after the crash, regional Investigative Committee official Anton Chernyshev told Interfax.
The regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry said that the plane was headed for landing at a reserve airfield, the report said, without providing additional details.
