New Map to Appear on Moscow Metro

The new Metro map

Transportation authorities are introducing a new metro map to be used across the city's subway network by the middle of next week.

News reports said the new maps, which were designed by the Art. Lebedev Studio, have already started appearing on metro cars serving the Sokolnicheskaya Line.

A competition to design the new map was held in November and featured entries from as far a field as France and the Netherlands. Art. Lebedev Studio's winning design received 52 percent of the week-long, online vote.

The new map replaces a version introduced last September and features finer details such as commuter platforms and the routes of Aeroexpress trains.

Transfer stations have also been given an overhaul, making it clear that there is no direct connection between the Borovitskaya and Alexandrovsky Sad stations.

The new design also references significant places of interest, including the Kremlin and the Bolshoi Theater.
