TBILISI, Georgia — A Georgian woman born in 1880 is the world’s oldest person, and the government will attempt to get her registered by Guinness World Records, an official said Tuesday.
“Antisa Khvichava was born in the 19th century, and she is amazing,” Giorgi Vashadze, head of Georgia’s Civil Registry Agency, said by telephone. “We have the necessary documents to prove it.”
Georgian authorities have Khvichava’s Soviet-era passport registration, which shows her date of birth, and her pension book issued in the 1960s, Vashadze said, adding that Khvichava will turn 130 on July 8. She lives in western Georgia with her family.
The world’s oldest validated person is Japan’s 114-year-old Kama Chinen, according to Gerontology Research Group.
