Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a Ukrainian counterintelligence agent, that tried to enlist in the agency, the FSB said in a statement published Thursday.
According to the statement, Lieutenant Colonel Yuriy Ivanchenko of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), was sent to Russia with the aim of becoming a false informant for the FSB.
U.S. Intelligence agencies such as the CIA are working with the SBU office in Kiev ?€” supervising their work against Russia, the FSB statement said.
?€?At some point, the SBU and CIA had planned to seize the FSB officer while obtaining information from Ivanchenko,?€? the statement said.
Detained on March 26, Ivanchenko traveled to Russia under the pretext of visiting relatives, despite the fact that Ukrainian security agencies prohibit employees from entering Russian territory, the FSB report said.
Since Ivanchenko had been exposed before inflicting and damage to Russian security, he will be sent back to Ukraine and banned from entering Russia.
