Day of Wrath Gets Go-Ahead

In a rare move, the Mayor's Office has given permission for an opposition rally to be held next week in central Moscow.

The so-called Day of Wrath will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, on Teatralnaya Ploshchad at the Karl Marx monument in front of the Bolshoi Theater, the Left Front opposition movement said Wednesday on its web site.

The Mayor's Office would not permit a march past the offices of the Central Elections Commission or the presidential administration, citing traffic problems, the group said.

At least nine Days of Wrath have been banned over the last two years. Wednesday's is the first allowed in the past six months.
