Cop Hit by Sapsan While Chasing Suspicious Man

A police officer chasing a man at a train platform was fatally injured by a passing high-speed Sapsan train.

At around 10:30 p.m. Monday on Ulitsa Starofilinskaya in northwest Moscow, the 35-year-old police sergeant noticed a "suspicious" man who, after noticing a group of cops, began to run toward the nearby Planernaya train platform, police said in a statement Tuesday.

The officer gave chase and reached the platform, where he was hit by a passing Sapsan train, the statement said. He sustained a skull fracture, among other injuries, and died from his wounds at 2 a.m., it said.

The exact circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated, the statement said.
