There are various penalties for being late to work, but a sledgehammer to the head is usually not one of them.
This was, however, exactly how a Russian Railways employee met his demise at the hands of his enraged boss in the Samara region, the Investigative Committee said Wednesday.
The 43-year-old victim was more than 30 minutes late for his shift at a boiler room, the Interfax news agency reported.
He also talked back when the 40-year-old head of the shift reprimanded him, local news website U-f.ru said.
The disgruntled boss then took the sledgehammer to the cheeky staffer, who later died in hospital.
The hammer-wielding railroad employee was held and could now face up to 15 years behind bars if charged and convicted of intentional infliction of grave bodily harm that resulted in death.
An investigation is ongoing.
