St. Petersburg's Students Celebrate at Scarlet Sails Party

Residents in St. Petersburg gathered over the weekend for the city's Alliye Parusa (Scarlet Sails) festival, a tradition marking the end of school that dates back more than 50 years.



The highlight of the show, which forms part of the White Nights art festival, is the appearance of a ship with scarlet sails on the River Neva.



Hundreds of thousands of people stayed up late to watch the wooden ship float down the river to the backdrop of fireworks.
