Moscow Exhibition Honors Tatar Culture
Three exhibitions about Russia's Tatarstan republic opened in Thursday at Moscow's Contemporary History Museum as part of the city's three-day celebration culture.
One of the museum's exhibitions features brightly colored paintings depicting scenes of traditional life in rural Tatarstan, located some 800 kilometers east of Moscow.
Another exhibition, titled "Treasure of Spiritual Heritage," features well-preserved books containing the works of Tatar poets and religious figures from the 16th to the 20th century.
The third exhibit offers a broad display of traditional clothing, musical instruments and artifacts from Tatarstan that date as far back as the 12th century.
Representatives of Moscow's Tatar community attended the opening ceremony as local artists performed traditional songs in Tatar. Although Moscow's "Tatar Days" conclude on Friday, the three exhibitions will run until Sept. 1.
