International Cake Day 2012

International Cake Day came to Moscow for only the second time on Friday. This creation, called "Heaven," reacts to the voices of passersby by tracing a pattern on the monitor in the background.

Too good to be true: An impressed onlooker moving in to touch the three-layered cake in front of her. Meanwhile, the artist is hard at work adding the finishing touches to his "Martian Wedding."

A combined project between the Altufyevo confectioner's and designer Leila Sandshiko, "Martian Wedding" even features a blue bride and groom on the third and final tier of the cake.

The Gift of Life and Canis Major Constellation charities presented "All Is Well on the Earth and in Space." Set up by actresses Chulpan Khamatova and Dina Korzun, Gift of Life helps support children suffering from cancer and other grave illnesses.

Pausing to consider where decoration is lacking, this man gets another space-themed cake ready for presentation. Flags of the event's founders, which include Russia, the United States, Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Georgia, give the "Star Cake" an international air.

And now for something completely different: cakes made out of soap under the category "Soap Sweets." Here the Alaori Cosmetics company stakes a claim for the daintiest handiwork in this year's event with an intricate pair of figurines.
