Vladimir Resin

Vladimir Resin (Владимир Иосифович Ресин) was born on Feb. 21, 1936, in Minsk.

Education: Economics, Moscow Mining Institute, 1958. Ph.D., 1995.

1958-1974: Worked in the Soviet coal-mining sector and for several construction organizations in Moscow

1974: Became deputy head of the capital's flagship construction firm Glavmosinzhstroi. He became the company's director in 1985.

1987: Ran Glavmospromstoi, another major construction firm

1988: Started working in the city's administration

1990-1991: Deputy chairman of the Moscow Executive Committee

1991-1996: First deputy premier of Moscow in charge of construction. He played a major role in the construction of the Christ the Savior Cathedral, the Okhotny Ryad shopping center and Gostiny Dvor.

1998-present: Chairman of the board of Glavmosstroi

2001-present: First deputy mayor and head of architecture and construction in Moscow under Mayor Yury Luzhkov

September-October 2010: Acting mayor of Moscow, replaced by Sergei Sobyanin

October 2010: Became a member of United Russia

Like former Mayor Yury Luzhkov, Resin often wears a flat cap in public. In an interview with Izvestia in August 2005, he was asked of whom he was afraid: "My wife Marta and Luzhkov. The mayor's opinion has always been important to me."

Resin also has a penchant for expensive wristwatches. When Vedomosti last year published pictures of outlandishly expensive watches on the wrists of the national elite, the most expensive — recognized by experts as Swiss-made DeWitt, Academia Tourbillon Differentiel rose gold, costing more than 1 million Swiss francs (about $1 million) before tax — belonged to Resin (source).

Resin is a member of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

He is married with a daughter and has said his work is his main interest in life.
