Alexander Lebedev (Александр Евгеньевич Лебедев) was born on Dec. 16, 1959, in Moscow.

Lebedev controls the Moskovsky Korrespondent newspaper, 49 percent of the Novaya Gazeta newspaper (with Mikhail Gorbachev), and two FM radio stations. He also owns the British publications The Evening Standard and The Independent.
