The Moscow region government has abandoned plans to build a cottage community around the estates of poet Alexander Blok and scientist Dmitry Mendeleyev, according to materials released by the region's Culture Ministry.
Currently, the estates function as museums.
The region's Property Ministry will reject an application to transfer the area to the category of residential land, the Culture Ministry said.
The land intended for the project is in an area where construction is prohibited under current regulations.
Blok, a key representative of the Silver Age of Russian poetry, spent his summers at Shakhmatovo, in the city of Solnechnogorsk, from 1881 to 1916.
The village of Boblovo, in the Klin district, was the summer residence of Mendeleyev, a chemist who created the periodic table of elements, from 1865 to 1906.
In 1903, Lyubov Mendeleyeva, a daughter of Mendeleyev, married Blok in Boblovo.
The Shakhmatavo estate has an area of 307 hectares, while the Boblovo estate is located on 25 hectares.
