Two very unsatisfied would-be patrons of a St. Petersburg supermarket on Wednesday night were arrested after returning to the store with a compressed-air gun, firing several rounds and threatening to shoot employees.
The suspects had wanted to purchase a bottle of vodka around 10 p.m. at the Bingo supermarket on Petergofskoye Shosse but were refused service because they had a dog with them. They were again rebuffed after leaving the dog outside because they were already drunk and causing a scene.
The men went home, dropped off the dog and returned with a "traumatic pistol," an air gun classified as a nonlethal weapon but that can be modified to shoot real bullets.
The suspects fired several rounds at the supermarket’s walls and threatened employees, St. Petersburg police said in a statement carried by RIA-Novosti on Thursday. No one was injured.
Both men, aged 27 and 32, whose names have not been released, were arrested. The gun was confiscated.
Police are determining whether the weapon was in fact converted into a lethal firearm. Traumatic pistols can easily be purchased at kiosks in many cities’ ubiquitous underground crosswalks.
