Russia to Continue Air Strikes During Syria Cease-fire

Russian Defense Ministry

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has announced that the Russian Air Force will continue its counterterrorism air strikes in Syria during the cease-fire, the state-run TASS news agency reported Friday.

?€?After the cease-fire is imposed, attacks against terrorist organizations in Syria will not stop, that was not planned. It was one of the conditions agreed by the Russian president and the U.S. president,?€? Peskov said, TASS reported.

The cease-fire is due to begin on Feb. 27.

Reports from the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights about strikes by the Russian Air Force on civilian buildings in Syria are not confirmed by reliable information, according to Peskov.

?€?We know that the Observatory repeatedly gave information which was not verified and not supported with any kind of evidence,?€? he emphasized.

?€?The Russian Air Force will continue its operations in Syria in support of the Syrian security forces, its operations are targeting the Islamic State and other terrorist organizations,?€? Peskov added.

The Islamic State is a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
