The organizing committee for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi plans to use passenger trains as “minihotels” during the games, RIA-Novosti reported Saturday.
The cost of staying in a sleeper car at the games would be included in the price of a rail ticket to Sochi, the state-run news service reported from Vancouver, citing Dmitry Chernyshenko, president of the Sochi organizing committee.
“If anyone wants to come to watch the competition for a day, he can buy this package,” Chernyshenko told RIA-Novosti.
He said using sleeper cars would reduce the burden on Sochi’s hotels.
Russian Railways, the country’s rail monopoly, signed a contract in Vancouver to become the eighth national sponsor of the Sochi Games.
