81 Years of the Moscow Metro

The first line of the Moscow metropolitan railway opened 81 years ago today, on May 15, 1935.
Although such a project was discussed as early as 1875, the metro's first 11.2-kilometer stretch from Park Kultury to Sokolniki was not completed for another 60 years.
To celebrate the anniversary, The Moscow Times looks back at 81 years of the subway system as documented through its ever-changing map.
