A photo shoot featuring Miss Russia draped in material resembling the Russian tricolor flag did not violate the law, the Prosecutor's Office of the Sverdlovsk region announced Monday.

The authorities had launched an investigation after Sofia Nikitchuk, Miss Russia 2015, posed for the cover of glossy magazine Stolnik.

"According to the results of the investigation, there was no violation of the law, and there is no reason to take prosecutorial measures," a statement on the website of the Prosecutor's Office said.

The office stated that the probe was in response to the complaint of an unnamed individual said to be offended by the image. Under Russian law, the desecration of the Russian flag is a criminal offense punishable with up to a year in prison.
