Moscow Zoo has taken three of the top spots in The Giant Panda Global Awards, an international competition to promote panda conservation work all over the world.

The opening of the zoo’s new “Fauna of China” enclosure won the “Panda Moment of the Year Award, ” while its chief Svetlana Akulova took second place in the “Panda Person of the Year” category and two-year old resident Dindin came third in the “Favourite Panda Outside China” category.

“The Giant Panda Global Awards have 15 nominations and up to 10 applicants from China, the U.S. and Europe who fight for victory in each of them,” Moscow Zoo wrote on Instagram.

“In the near future three crystal figurines will be delivered to Moscow Zoo,” the post added.

The awards are organized by Belgium-based website GiantPandaGlobal.com and given to the world’s leading zoos, conservation organizations and specialists based on online voting from all over the world.

This was the first time Moscow Zoo had taken part.
