Police in the Russian city of Oryol are under investigation after refusing to aid a young woman who was later murdered.

The victim begged police to help her just 40 minutes before she was beaten to death by her former partner, Russian tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda reported Friday.

The operator ignored the woman's pleas, telling her that she would be reported for making false allegations.

“Don't worry – if he kills you, we'll come out to take note of the body,” the on-duty officer said in a recording of the call released by the newspaper.

The woman later attempted to flee to her car, but was caught and beaten by her ex-partner, the Rosbalt news site reported. Passers-by called for an ambulance, but doctors were unable to save her.

In June 2016, a police officer was found guilty of ignoring calls for help in a domestic violence case in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk.

The officer received an 18 months suspended sentence after the female victim died of head trauma.
