Opposition Lawmaker Complains to Putin About Kremlin Security

Gudkov wrote that the surveillance cameras near Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge — where Nemtsov was gunned down in February — “point inside the Kremlin wall” and not at the bridge itself.

State Duma Deputy Dmitry Gudkov — best known for supporting the Russian political opposition — filed an official request with President Vladimir Putin on Monday, asking him to launch an inspection into the Federal Guard Service (FSO) in connection with the murder in central Moscow earlier this year of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov.

He published the text of the request on his Facebook page.

Gudkov wrote that the surveillance cameras near Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge — where Nemtsov was gunned down in February — “point inside the Kremlin wall” and not at the bridge itself.

“When the Investigative Committee requested footage from the surveillance cameras near Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge from the FSO, they replied that they don't monitor that area,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Monday. “This concerns the security of the residents of the Kremlin,” the deputy added.

“This information was given to me by Vadim Prokhorov, the lawyer of Zhanna Nemtsova [Nemtsov's daughter],” he said.

According to the lawmaker, if it is true that the FSO doesn't conduct video surveillance of the bridge, it becomes a matter of the “personal safety” of Putin, whom the FSO is charged with guarding.

“We'll see what kind of measures will be taken. What if the FSO is not taking its work seriously?” wrote Gudkov.
