Russian space agency Roscosmos on Saturday launched a Russian heavy-lift rocket Proton-M from Baikonur Cosmodrome.

In a statement the ministry said the launch was successful and the payload, a space observatory Spektr-RG, was successfully delivered into orbit.

According to the Russian media, the observatory will take a stable position between the Earth and the sun with the purpose of creating a detailed star map.
