The Fifth Russia–Italia Film Festival (Riff): Still More Guests And Film-Makers From Italy

Press release

The fifth, jubilee edition of the Russia–Italia Film Festival (RIFF), the most full-scale of the Italian film forums in Russia is undergoing transformation — the new format it will assume, implies 12 premieres and 12 encounters with star guests from Italy within a year.

Each screening within the RIFF scope will also appear an all-Russian premiere becoming the venue of  Q&A meetings with directors, actors, producers, accompanied by lectures, masterclasses, workshops dedicated to both new and classic Italian cinema, to the Italian life philosophy, as well as to the language.

On November the 14th the Big Hall of Karo Oktyabr Film Multiplex will host the grand opening ceremony of the festival with the all-Russian premiere of the major Italian comedy of the year “I AM TEMPESTA” directed by Daniele Lucchetti. The main character is a billionaire, well-calculating and cynical, unable to resist the temptation of pulling off a scheme of the century even after being sentenced by court to a year of community service in a shelter house. Writer Giulia Calenda is going to attend the ceremony as a special guest.

Another key event of the festival is the first screening of a new episode of the most acclaimed Italian comedy franchise of recent years “I can quit when I want. Revolution” by S. Sibillia, to be shown on December 5th with the participation of the movie creators.

More to the bill there is “A trainee” adventurous comedy by V. Attanasio, a drama “Made in Italy “filmed by L. Ligabue  and a noir detective “The last prosecco” (A. Padovan) and others.

Summer is comedy time and from May till September RIFF viewers all over Russia will be enjoying 5 best new Italian comedies.

The sequence of the best Italian one-reelers set ITALIAN BEST SHORTS–3 (which received a warm welcome years before) is on the programme too.

Along with spectators and guests there will be a professional jury to watch the films - directors, scriptwriters, film experts, actors. The RIFF prize “Red Carpet” will be awarded by this contest panel at the closing ceremony. This official prize of our festival had been designed by the world-famous artist Marco Bravura (his artistic installations are represented in a plenty of the world capitals and his work “Ardea Purpurea” included on the UNESCO list of Adriatic heritage).

Spectators` voting will be under way during the entire year (together with the jury voting). And the winner will be given the Audience Award.

Festival screenings will go hand in hand with educational programmes, lectures, workshops, masterclasses dedicated to the Italian language, cinema, culture. All the displays will take place in the original, with Russian subtitles.
