Weekend in Moscow: Literary Duels

Muzeon park

Speak pretty good Russian and love a healthy debate? The new season of Literary Duels kicks off at Muzeon park this Sunday.

Using words as their weapon of choice linguists, philosophers, literature specialists and theater critics will discuss the pressing cultural issues of the age.

The session on Sunday features poet, critic, translator and linguist Lev Oborin in the role of moderator. He will be chairing a discussion between two eminent figures: Anna Narinskaya, a correspondent and culture critic at Kommersant and Pavel Pepperstein, one of the most influential artists in modern Russia.

This weekend’s debate is entitled “The Captains Daughter or Forest Gump: The Price of Victory or Non-Participation in Combat”.

From Shakespeare to Chekhov, Tolstoy to Astafyev and Vonnegut to Martin, the theme of the winner and the loser has permeated world literature throughout the ages. The discussion will explore the multifaceted nature of these stories and how we can understand them through the prism of the modern world.

It’s a must for any self-respecting literature-lover. If you can't make this weekend's event, there will be two more debates over the summer. Visit the website for more details.

Entry is free but participants should register for a ticket at nekrasovka.ru. Muzeon Park. 2 Krymsky Val. Metro Park Pobedy, Oktyabrskaya. July 31. at 7 p.m.
