FAIR The 17th International Fair for High-Quality Fiction and Non-Fiction
Moscow's best book and event fair
The fair may have an odd name, but it is the best book fair in Moscow and one of the best in the world. Here the emphasis is on "high quality." There are hundreds of Russian publishers showing and selling their wares, from the most arcane academic tomes to gorgeous art books to magnificent cookbooks and fabulous children's books. And that's not all. Every hour there are two to five talks, workshops, demonstrations and meetings with authors, public figures, publishers, translators and illustrators. This year there are special sections on gastronomy, vinyl music albums and antique books. For parents: There are activities for children all day long, so you can leave them in the kiddie corner and head off to fill your book bag.

Spanish Literature Events
Meet some of your favorite Spanish-language writers
This year Spanish literature is the main "guest" of the fair, with more than a dozen writers, playwrights, journalists and literary critics arriving from Spain, Chile, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Venezuela. Friday is filled with meetings all day, where the guests will talk about everything from journalism and literature to contemporary Spanish poetry and even comics. Come hear if capitalism is doomed
The French economist who wrote "Capital in the 21st Century" is speaking on his book recently translated into Russian. The English translation came out in 2014 and quickly hit the top of the New York Times Bestseller list. The book focuses on wealth and income equality in Europe and the United States and proposes measures to limit inequality and ensure that the wealth of nations is not concentrated in a small minority — also called "the 1 percent."

French diet guru reveals his secrets
The French doctor Pierre Dukan, whose diet plan millions of Russian — and not only Russian — women and men swear by, will answer questions and explain how the French manage to eat some of the richest food in the world and yet maintain perfect figures throughout their lives.

For a serious talk, come hear historian Oleg Khlevnyuk discuss why so many contemporary books about Stalin ignore the vast, serious body of research that has been done over the years. The author will discuss his latest biography of the Soviet leader.

Justin Lifflander: How Not to Become a Spy
An American finds love and happiness for ever after in Russia
Former Moscow Times business editor Justin Lifflander talks about his autobiographical book about being an American weapons inspector in Votkinsk and falling in love with a woman minding him for the local KGB. Marriage, a son and great happiness ensue. He'll discuss the book and its translation into Russian.

Food and entertainment from around the world
The lifestyle magazine "Kinfolk" and book "The Kinfolk Table" are something of a foodie phenomenon, with stories about simple entertainment and good food. The cookbook tells the stories of several dozen cooks, both professional chefs and home cooks, who share their recipes and secrets. Hipster fluff or a quantum leap in entertainment? See for yourself.
