Elderly Russian Man Gets Beaten to Death at Doctor's Appointment

A man is suspected of killing a 62-year-old patient during a routine visit to his doctor's office in Moscow.

Moscow police on Tuesday were searching for a man suspected of having brutally beaten and killed a 62-year-old patient during a routine visit to his doctor's office.

The incident occurred at a clinic in northeastern Moscow last week, when the victim got into a verbal altercation with a woman who was also waiting in line to see the doctor, Interfax reported Tuesday.

After seeing the doctor and returning to the reception area, investigators said, the victim was greeted by the woman and an unknown man, who struck the victim several times until he fell to the floor, Interfax cited the Investigative Committee's press service as saying.

The victim was subsequently hospitalized but never regained consciousness, and his death late Monday prompted investigators to open a criminal case on charges of serious infliction of harm resulting in death. The charge carries a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison.

Investigators are currently speaking with witnesses.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
