A Russian man who previously served nine years for a sexual offense has been detained on suspicion of attacking several women, including a South Korean while he was on vacation, Russian authorities said Wednesday.
Russian police detained the 34-year-old suspect after linking him to a series of rapes in apartment buildings — on stairs and in elevators — in the far eastern city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
The attacks told took place over a two-year period following the man's released from prison in 2012, the Interfax news agency reported.
The suspect is also believed to have strangled a South Korean woman to death during a trip to that country in February.
The attacks in Komsomolsk-on-Amur occurred during times when the suspect returned to the city to visit his mother, the report said.
