The United States has expelled a man suspected of sexually assaulting minors to Russia on account of having violated the country's migration laws.
Vladimir Letunov will be charged with nine counts of sexual assault under article 132 of the Russian Criminal Code on "violent sexual actions," the Investigative Committee reported Thursday in an online statement.
Letunov is said to have followed several girls aged 12 to 17 into stairwells and threatened them with physical violence before sexually assaulting them. Evidence of Letunov's crimes was captured on surveillance cameras, the committee said.
U.S. authorities decided to expel Letunov earlier this month for violating the country's migrations laws after Russia's Investigative Committee notified them of the man's crimes, committed in Moscow and the Moscow region between 2007 and 2013, news agency Interfax reported.
