City Hall is planning to install Moscow's first traffic lights for cycle lanes this year.
The traffic lights will be installed where cycle lanes intersect with roads, M24 reported, citing the deputy head of Moscow's transportation department, Alina Bisembayeva.
Igor Markin, head of a bicycle transport research institute, said that the traffic lights could appear in the city by summer.
About 20 bicycle traffic lights will be needed in Moscow, with the cost of the project estimated at about 1 million rubles ($27,400), said Diana Khakimova, an analyst from probok.net.
City authorities have already announced plans to build four new cycle routes in 2014, extending the spread of Moscow's cycle lanes from 100 kilometers to more than 215 kilometers.
