KRASNAYA POLYANA — Norway's Maiken Caspersen Falla skied to Olympic gold in the women's cross-country sprint Tuesday, fending off a host of experienced competitors.
Falla charged over the line at the Laura ski resort to finish 0.38 seconds ahead of fellow Norwegian Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg, who in turn took the silver from Slovenia's Vesna Fabjan by 0.02 seconds in a photo finish.
It is the second Norwegian cross-country gold of the Games after Marit Bjoergen won the women's skiathlon Saturday.
Earlier Tuesday, U.S. sprint gold medal favorite Kikkan Randall failed to get past the quarterfinals.
