The video of a girl who ignored her mother's desperate pleas to drive carefully and ended up in a ditch at the side of a Siberian highway has made the list of most popular items on the LiveJournal Monday.
The footage shows a car pulling out of a gas station just after midnight before speeding along the dimly lit Surgut-Nizhnevartovsk highway, flying by intersections and overtaking vehicles along the way.
Despite her mother's repeated protests, the driver, referred to as Tanya, keeps picking up speed and performs a dangerous overtaking maneuver veering onto the unpaved hard-shoulder.
When the car gets toward 200 kilometers per hour the crazy dash reaches its logical conclusion as the driver loses control of the car, smashing into trees and ending up in a roadside ditch.
A person claiming to be a traffic police officer commented on the video, saying that both the driver and the passenger got off with only minor cuts and bruises.
No one else was injured in the crash, and no other vehicles were damaged.
A Message from The Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.
We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
