The first suicide has occurred on the new bridge linking Vladivostok with Russky Island when a young man jumped off early Tuesday.
At about 5 a.m. traffic police saw a man standing on the bridge's guard rails. When they tried to approach him, however, he jumped off the bridge into the Peter the Great Bay, Interfax reported, citing police.
Police were searching for the man's body, and an inquiry was under way.
Police found a Toyota Crown belonging to a 27-year-old Vladivostok resident near where the man jumped.
The bridge to Russky Island is one of the largest cable-stayed bridges in the world. It links the mainland parts of Vladivostok with Russky Island. The bridge was completed and put into commission in 2012 just ahead of the APEC summit held in the city.
