A confused CNN anchor mistakenly declared that Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was booed by supporters at the United Russia party convention, rather than by fans at a mixed martial arts fight.
The erroneous report aired Monday night on CNN International program Global Exchange, Gazeta.ru .
Introducing video of a large crowd raining down boos and whistles on Putin, the host claimed it had occurred during Sunday's party gathering.
"I want to show the video that we got from the party convention this weekend. It is not widely covered in international media. This is real amateur video of those who booed Putin as he was nominated for president," the web site quoted the host as saying.
The show continued without correcting that the video had, in fact, come from an event a week earlier in which Putin was booed by fans at Moscow's Olimpiisky stadium following Russian champion Fedor Emelianenko's victory over American Jeff Monson.
CNN and the Kremlin had no immediate comment on the mistake.
