Meat Output Increases

Russian meat and byproduct output rose 4.6 percent from a year earlier in 2011's first nine months, the State Statistics Service said in a statement Tuesday.

Meat output in September was 109,000 tons, up 4.3 percent from a year earlier and 2.2 percent more than the prior month.

Pork production gained 10 percent to 70,600 tons in September, and poultry and byproduct output advanced 4.6 percent to 242,000 tons. Farms and households had 20.8 million head of cattle by the end of September, down 0.7 percent from a year earlier, including 9 million cows. The pig herd rose 0.4 percent to 18.8 million animals, and sheep and goat numbers advanced 2.1 percent to 24 million.
